My Role is to support students with learning difficulties on Placements.
I have been attending the Weeecharity for nearly a year now. The
Weeecharity is a great place for students to learn skills towards
employment and to gain independence. The students learn problem
solving, independent working and fine motor skills. Whilst allowing
them to experience a workplace environment.
A few of my students have told me that the Weeecharity Placement is
unlike any other that they have been on.
They find stripping computers and other electrical items, stimulating
and enjoyable. It is something that they can get immediately into. It
its amazing the differences in my students after only a few weeks on
Placement.
They have become more self assured. whilst learning what is expected of
them and what they must do to complete their task. They grow in confidence, with
students who struggle with the social aspect of college and in general
striking up conversations with me and staff at the Weeecharity. There
was one week when a quiet student started and never said a word. A few
weeks later they were joking with members of staff and asking them for
help when they were stuck.
A large part of this is due to the work environment at Weeecharity. It
is a relaxed environment, allowing students to come out of their shell
and become their authentic self. Whilst at the same having rules and
standards regarding safety and conduct. Staff at Weeecharity are
approachable and always willing to help. This makes a huge difference
to students who often struggle with confidence and how to express
themselves, due to their disabilities and learning difficulties. All
this to say that I would recommend Weeecharity whole heartedly. Whether
it is help with gaining employment in the future or to learn
independence and to grow in confidence. Weeecharity will help you to
achieve this...
